AntennaPod Has To Be My Favorite App Right Now
After hacking my Amazon Audible key which can be found in a previous post here: https://blog.wretchednet.com/post/hacking_aax/, I was on the hunt for an audiobook player that was OpenSource and simple to work with.
My search for anything on Android begins with F-Droid, an OpenSource app “store”, that has tons of OpenSource apps made by awesome people. Most of these apps are less bloaty and don’t track your usage. Some are labeled as having Anti-features which conveniently show how they may do things like track and or require access to your files.
When searching for an audiobook player and or an audio player in general, several apps showed up. I tried out a few but none of them worked the way I wanted them to work. I then tried to see what was on the Google Play Store. The one that most people rave about is Smart AudioBook Player. I tried it out but this too I found just was more complicated and robust than I wanted.
I wanted a player that just played the audio and remembered where I was last at. I don’t need more options than that.
After looking for some other options online, I remembered hearing that the app AntennaPod, could also play other audio files besides just podcasts. It makes sense since most podcasts are mp3 files, but the cracked Audible files I have are m4b. I thought for sure it wouldn’t be able to read it. Well I’m glad to say I was wrong. I love using the AntennaPod app for all of my podcasts but finding out that the app also works with my audio book files makes it even better. In fact I might just say that the app is my current favorite right now.
I looked into immediately donating to them where I was prompted by their donate page that they are already being funded sufficiently and would rather you donate to your favorite podcaster?!! :astonished: I was shocked. This is not how I ever expected an app developer to be, but man did that make me like them more.
So please take their advice if you begin to use AntennaPod and donate to your favorite podcasters instead.

In a future post I will be adding a post on how I keep my podcasts and audio files synced using Nextcloud and Gpodder.
